For this blend, they use roughly half cabernet franc and half malbec, all from vineyards with calcareous soils in the Gualtallary zone, at about 1,400 meters above sea level in the north of the Uco Valley. It's juicy above all else, with nervy acidity and fine, well-defined tannins that are sharp on the palate, while aromas and flavors of black cherries are projected through the mouth, with a finish of herbs and tobacco.

Aromas of tree bark, cola and chocolate hide the fact that the fruit here isn't distinguished. A high-acid palate lends flash to gamy berry and red fruit flavors, but also a screechy sensation. Chunky, earthy aromas of balsam wood, finely aged balsamic vinegar and stewed blackberry yield to a tight drawing palate with hard tannins. This tastes meaty, roasted and more aggressive than El Enemigo's lower-elevation 2013s. A finish with salty toasty oaky notes, big tannins and blazing acidity closes the show. This is Cab Franc with 15% Malbec. Drink through 2023.

Juicy on the palate, pronounced fruit, elegant, silky tannins, fine acidity, balanced, delicate freshness, lingers long, mineral finish, red berry touch in the aftertaste, and with a pleasant saltiness. It already seems very gluggable, and has clear ageing potential.
